| The Stockton Male Voice Choir was formed in 1948 as a result of a meeting called by Alderman Lillystone who thought it was time that the town had a Male Voice Choir, and the sucessive Mayors of Stockton have been the honorary presidents of our choir ever since. For many years, the choir competed successfully in the music festivals throughout Durham and North Yorkshire. The choir currently has 37 members who enjoy performing in our concerts. We generally perform 1 or 2 concerts a month in Stockton and the surrounding areas. The Choir Officers for 2007 are:
Over the years the SMVC has had a number of guest soloist perform with them, during 2007 we have been joined by Ann Haley (Soprano) and Rachel Wyllie (Mezzo-Soprano). The choir has a number of talented male soloists including Gordon Bean, Trevor Burdon, Vince Carroll, Tom Ferguson, Andrew Jones, David & Gary Thompson who entertain audiences in style for the majority of our concerts. The choir is continuously developing new and existing talents and encouraging members to sing small solo parts in choral pieces or larger solo selections. As a charitable organisation, the SMVC is always seeking new patrons to support the work the we do. Unfortunately new music is not cheap to acquire for a full choir and the invaluable support that we recieve from patrons, who donate both small and large sums to the SMVC, is gratefully received. We are in turn meeting our obligations of encouraging young talent within the community, the choir has in the past run competitions for young composers and is currently promoting Rachel Wyllie and introducing this talented young mezzo-soprano, who just finished sitting her GCSE's, to new audiences within the North East.
