About Us
The Stockton Male Voice Choir was formed in 1948 as a result of a meeting called by Alderman Lillystone who thought it was time that Stockton had a Male Voice Choir. We still maintain strong links with the Borough and now wear the Stockton Borough Council Tie with our uniform and occasionally perform at the Mayor’s Inaugural and Remembrance Day Services.
As a registered charity, the choir exists with the aid of members’ subscriptions, voluntary donations and the modest fees levied for concerts, however, we always appreciate the support of Patrons in order to add to our range of music. (For more information about becoming a patron, please contact our Patron’s Secretary Bob Bond on 01642 123456)
We have been very fortunate in our Musical Directors, having had just 5 in the 60 years history of the choir with the previous MD holding the post for the past five years until December 2009. Our Deputy MD Peter Walker is conducting the choir at the moment but we would like to appoint someone new to the post (see box below).
New Musical Director Required
Our previous Musical Director moved on at the end of 2009 and we are urgently seeking the services of a new MD to take us forward into 2010 and beyond. We have an exciting programme of concerts planned for 2010 and it would be nice if our new MD could take us for these concerts. We have two major concerts this year together with two concerts at Betty’s Tea rooms in Northallerton as well other venues. Our Deputy MD is taking us at the moment. Applicants should contact any member of the Committee. You would also be very welcome to come along to our rehearsals on a Monday night to see and hear us before making up your mind.
